If you follow my Instagram page you probably know already about my new hobby, which is painting Warhammer 40k miniatures, something that I knew existed but that never thought that I would actually like. But how did I get into this hobby?
It all started with an ad I saw on TV for Warhammer 40k Conquest, which is basically a monthly subscription. If you choose to sign they’ll send you a new issue every week with different miniatures, paints and a codex filled with Warhammer 40k lore.
And, as soon as I saw it I knew that I wanted to try this out but I didn’t want to sign for a monthly subscription so I went to a couple local stores to see if they were selling this collection, and luckily for me, I found one that did! And the first issue was just 1,50€ which is stupidly cheap! It comes with 3 miniatures, 3 different paints and a brush. To put things in perspective, just one paint costs 3,60€!
It’s obvious that the first issue is just this cheap to hook you in and with me, it worked, and I’m glad it did! I enjoyed painting my first figures so much that when I went to buy the next issues I ended up getting three more copies of the first issue just so I could have more paint and miniatures to practice with!
And, what’s so great about this hobby is that sometimes when I get home from work I’m so tired from staring at a screen all day that I don’t always want to play videogames so, I just sit and paint my miniatures, which I find very relaxing. I even think that I’m sleeping better because I’m spending less time in front of a screen before sleeping.
However, I have a slight problem right now because of the pandemic. The publisher has stopped releasing weekly issues and the stores near my house that sell this collection are all closed. So, until this blows out I’m stuck with just painting the miniatures I own. Still, I like taking my time with my miniatures and I can spend a day or two casually painting a single one.
But, one thing that I really have to try is playing the actual game!! Because this is a board game! I’ll try asking my girlfriend to play it with me but honestly, I think I’ll just be one of those that just enjoys painting the miniatures, and that’s ok right?
