The best games I played in 2020

I was having a hard time putting this list together since last year was a bit awkward for me regarding game releases. I wasn’t looking forward to anything in particular so I ended up not buying that many games that were actually released in 2020. Because of this, most games on my list will be from previous years. However, I had a lot of fun with all of them, and some of them I still can’t get out of my mind.

5 – POKEMON MYSTERY DUNGEON DX

This one actually released just a couple of days before I got on lockdown because of the pandemic and it was my first Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game.

At that time, I was really needing something lighthearted to take my focus off of what was going on in the world, and this game played that part quite well. I loved going into new dungeons, recruiting new Pokémon, and going through that lovely and heartfelt story. I really recommend this one to any Pokémon fan.

4 – THE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU: FINAL REMIX

Sometime in the middle of the summer, I was alone for a couple of weeks without my girlfriend so I decided to buy a new game to pass the time faster.

Luckily for me, The World Ends With You: Final Remix was on sale and I bought it without even flinching. Although the gameplay is a bit awkward, after a while you get used to it. Plus, the story, characters, style, and amazing soundtrack more than makeup for it.

I really can’t believe it took me all these years to finally play this game, I guess you can say I was Zetta slow (get it?).

3 – LEGRAND LEGACY: TALE OF THE FATEBOUNDS

This was my biggest surprise of the year and it only cost me 2€… I feel so bad for paying so little for such an amazing game JRPG.

I only got this game because my younger brother got it too, and after seeing him play for a while I had to get it.

What really got me right away was the aesthetic which was made to resemble that PS1 / PS2 era of JRPG.

Then I fell in love with the battle system, and then the story and characters, and finally the beautiful soundtrack that I still play on Spotify while I’m working.

Please do yourself a favor and buy this game, you won’t regret it!

2 – TALES OF VESPERIA: DEFINITIVE EDITION

Tales of Vesperia was the last game I played in 2020 and I’m still playing it on and off on New Game+.

However, I was having a hard time enjoying it and it took me about twenty hours to really get into it.

I guess this is a thing that most JRPG’s tend to do, they start slow but keep you engaged enough by introducing new characters and slowly flesh out the story.

Then, before you know it you’re hooked! I remember clearly not being able to turn it off because I just had to know where the story was leading me!

Also, this was my first ‘Tales of’ and I wasn’t sure what to expect but, in the end I absolutely loved it! As I said I’m currently playing through New Game+ and I’m attempting to complete it 100% which is a lengthy task! Wish me luck!

1 – ANIMAL CROSSING: NEW HORIZONS

I guess this was to be expected right? This was the game I played the most and it meant so much for me.

My girlfriend literally hijacked my Nintendo Switch because of Animal Crossing.

I even felt forced to buy her a Nintendo Switch Lite with a copy of the game! Also, more people I know got the game too and we would often play together visiting each other’s islands to just hang out in a time where hanging out in real life wasn’t possible.

Also, things are starting to take a turn for the worse again so I think it’s time I get back to my island. I spent hours building this massive wall around it and I still haven’t decorated it!

That’s it! Those were the games I had the most fun with in 2020! There were a couple more that despite not being on my top 5 are definitely on my top 10 like Ni No Kuni, Ooblets, or even Guild Wars/Guildwars2!

I’ll try updating you guys more on what I’m currently playing throughout the year!

What about you? What were the games you had the most fun with in 2020? Let me know!
