The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening – Something’s not right!

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

I’m late but I’d like to talk a bit about the thing that generated more hype and mixed feelings on last week’s Nintendo Direct, the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

When they first showed the trailer I was confused and didn’t know what game they were showing us but as soon as Link appeared sailing that boat on a stormy night I knew what it was, a remake of Link’s Awakening! My reaction was so out of this world that I scared my girlfriend a bit and because of that this might’ve been the last Nintendo Direct we watched together!

After that amazing cutscene, we were treated with some gameplay and by the end, I was left with some mixed feelings. Although I was glad they decided to stick with the original’s 2D gameplay with upgraded 3D graphics there was something that didn’t feel right!

I watched the trailer a couple more times to find out what it was. Was it the art design? Did it feel too kiddy for my taste or was I just disappointed because I wanted something more realistic? No and no! Knowing the context of the game you’d know that this isn’t a game that takes itself too seriously so this adorable style fits it wonderfully! Then what was it then?

It was that blur effect! While it doesn’t seem to appear in dungeons or indoors there’s a bad case of blurring on the overworld and that’s something that bothers me a lot! If possible I always turn off motion blur effects if given the option because it messes with my vision while I’m playing. Let’s just hope that there’s an option to turn it off in Link’s Awakening as well!

But that’s my only complaint about the game’s visual’s really, I’ve played through all 2D Zelda game’s and the only one I was missing was this one, I was saving it for a special occasion because I knew that when I finished there’d be no more 2D Zelda games to play! Let’s all hope that if this sells well they’ll remaster Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages into a single game!

I completely agree. The game is beautiful, but the blur makes my eyes strain. I'm hoping it's not a baked in feature and will have the ability to turn it off in future updates.
