I finally caved in and got all the Metroid Prime 4 Beyond Amiibo, just so I could fully experience this wonderful game. I just couldn’t get out of my mind the question: What do these Metroid Prime 4 Amiibo unlocks do?
Not only that, but I purchased them blindly, and let me tell you that the extra €65 I paid was not worth it to unlock these new features. And 2 of them should be in the main game…
So I’ll be reviewing the Metroid Prime Amiibo today, going over what they unlock, and explaining exactly why they are not worth it. The only reason why you should even consider purchasing them should be because they are cool collectibles to have, even more if you’re a Metroid fan like I am.
With this said, let’s go over these Amiibo, starting with the least useful to the most:
Sylux Amiibo

During your gameplay, you’ll be seeing flashes of a war scene that can only be viewed in its entirety if you complete the game 100% by scanning everything and getting every item upgrade.
Using the Sylux Amiibo removes this completion reward entirely, and you’ll be able to see the full cinematic by just beating the game in any %.

Additionally, every time you scan the Amiibo afterward, you’ll be able to hear a random line from Sylux.
The Amiibo looks and feels pretty good, though. However, I don’t feel any sort of attachment to it yet, since this is the first Metroid Prime game I’m actually playing until the end, and I still need to see more of this guy’s actions.
So, if you’re a fan of Sylux, this is probably a great pick as a collectible only, because the unlockables are not worth it.

Samus Amiibo

The Samus Amiibo is a super useful functionality for players that are in a pinch, especially against groups of Psy Bots…
By scanning it, you’ll activate a bonus Health Shield that will block 99 points of damage, but just once a day. So choose wisely when you’ll use this shield. Personally, I don’t use it since it makes the game easier than it should.
Also, once you complete Volt Forge and acquire Viola, you can scan it again to get a literal radio to change the background music when riding Viola through the desert.

This is super cool and should’ve been 100% in the game. The desert has barely any ambient sound apart from the wind blowing and the engine of Viola roaring. So being able to just turn on the Volt Forge OST truly makes a difference.
Just like Sylux, this Amiibo is wonderfully designed, and you can clearly tell the subtle differences in Samus’s suit.
And since this one has a functionality that actually impacts how you experience the game, I’d say you should pick this one up.

Viola + Samus Amiibo

This one you need to get, period. It’s one of the coolest Amiibos in my collection, and the level of detail and care that went into it is crazy. The Red and Black Biker Suit is probably my favorite one so far in the entire series.
And what does the Viola + Samus Amiibo unlock? New skins for Viola that can be progressively unlocked by riding through the desert. There are 8 skins in total, and every 50000 miles you’ll be rewarded a new one.
Also, once a day you can scan it to increase the rate at which Viola’s Boost energy regenerates, which makes it easier to ramp up those miles.

However, if you want to unlock the skins, you’ll always need to scan the amiibo and check how many miles you’ve traversed, which is super annoying.
It’s a great feature, and it does affect the gameplay a bit, since at some point you’ll need to collect the green shards scattered in the desert, and having a goal to achieve while doing it makes it less of a chore. And you’ll be able to do it in style.

Are the Metroid Prime Amiibo Worth It?
The Metroid Prime 4 Amiibos are expensive, and in my opinion only Samus and Samus + Viola are useful and worth getting for how they look and unlock. And, if you have to pick just one, Viola + Samus is the obvious choice — it’s an Amiibo that I’ll have on full display on my desk for the foreseeable future.
Hope this has helped you in making a conscious decision, and keep enjoying Metroid Prime 4.
Thanks for reading, and if everything goes well, I’ll be seeing you again next time with brand new content!
