This last 4th week of August lacked game releases on the Nintendo eShop, which is actually a good thing, since it means less shovelware will be pushed on us. Although a game called “TITI DROP” managed to pass Nintendo’s very harsh and strict policies…
How’s everyone doing? Welcome to another Gamer By Mistake eShop Selects, and today I’m spicing things up. There are only 2 titles to recommend this week, so I’ll add one more game recommendation that’s currently on sale that I can’t stop playing.
With this said, here are this week’s games:
Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution
“Shantae is back in an adventure 20 years in the making! The nefarious pirate Risky Boots has a “groundbreaking” new plan that will leave Sequin Land spinning — by rotating the continent, she can move any town right to the coast for easy plundering!
As Shantae, turn the tectonic tables on Risky by taking control of the land itself: shift, twist, navigate, and explore by swapping between mix-and-match multilayered levels! Hair-whip and belly-dance your way through scrambled lands, misplaced towns, monster-filled crypts, and daunting labyrinths. Six creature transformations, fierce boss battles, and a 4-player versus mode await!”

Editor Notes: I almost bought this one, but unfortunately for Shantae, there was another game I was more eager to play last week ever since I saw the trailer during the last Nintendo Direct. Although, I wish I had bought Shantae since I love a good MetroidVania in Game Boy Advance style.
Herdling
“Herdling is a brand new adventure from Okomotive, creators of the atmospheric and acclaimed FAR games, and Panic, publishers of Firewatch.
Head out on a grand alpine expedition with a herd of loveable beasts, as you ascend a mountain path, encounter eerie dangers and surprising obstacles, and forge your way to the mystery at the summit.”

Editor’s Note: I love games as atmospheric experiences like Abzu and Journey, so I knew Herdling would be a perfect pick. It was the exact game I needed to relax from a stressful and tiring week.
It’s a short game, and it takes roughly 3 hours to beat, so I sat down on my couch last Friday night and played it until the end.
Although I loved most of it, it definitely needs more work in many areas if it wants to come close to the same level of polish as the games I mentioned previously.
Also, SUPER BIG DISLAIMER:
DO NOT BUY THIS ON SWITCH 1 PLEASE! My entire playthrough was on Switch 2 which ran decently, with just a bug to report. Afterward, I decided to play it on Switch 1 and I can’t recommend it to anyone due to how poorly it performs.
If you want to play Herdling, please ensure you do so on Switch 2, and maybe wait for a price drop too…
Right now Hogwarts Legacy has an 80% discount price, meaning you can get it as cheap as 11.99€/$11.99.
For just 10€/$10 more, you purchase the Switch 2 Edition, which is a completely separate game. Meaning, you can load one on your Switch 1 if you want to, like I did just to compare both versions.
The difference is mind-blowing, and I highly recommend it! I’ve played this one before on Xbox Series S, and despite not looking as great on Switch 2, it’s my go-to version of the game simply because I can play it portably whenever I want to.
So, if you like Harry Potter and can separate the art from its creator, then this is a deal you cannot miss.
