This week was looking a bit dry in terms of releases when compared to the previous week, but then the Nintendo Direct came out of nowhere and spiced things up, on the indie side!
There was also a first-party release that got me feeling disappointed, I’ll do my best to explain why.
How’s everyone doing? Welcome to another Gamer By Mistake eShop Selects, each week I showcase the Nintendo Switch games you should not miss.
With this said, let’s get right into this list, starting with the highlight of the week:

Highlight of the Week:
Lynked Banner of the Spark
Lynked: Banner of the Spark is yet another life sim game released on the Nintendo Switch.
As such, you’ll be able to customize your own home base, decorate it to your liking, and slowly expand it as you gather resources.
However, the roguelike elements in the game set it apart from the competition. You’ll head in missions where you slash and grapple across arenas, battle swarms of robotic enemies, and rescue quirky robot companions known as Unibots.

So, the more runs you do, the faster your home base will grow.
This game isn’t entirely new to me since it was released on Steam last year, but it’s great to see it finally on Switch.
It also comes with a Switch 2 version, thankfully, where you can expect better performance and visuals! Also, even if you purchase the game on Switch 1, you can upgrade it in the future for free, much like No Man’s Sky and even Pokémon Scarlet.
I’m a super fan of these types of games, and based on the reviews on Steam, it has the potential of being one of the best games of this genre on the Nintendo Switch as well.
Notable Releases:
Storm Lancers
Next up we have Storm Lancers. The first third-party game was introduced in the latest direct, and it seems like an interesting roguelike to play with your friends.
You’ll crash-land on an alien planet on the verge of destruction, and you’ll save it by teaming up with two magical creatures capable of bringing you back from death.
The game is fast-paced, and similar to other roguelikes, each death will give you a better chance of getting a bit further in your next run.

Donkey Kong Bananza DLC
I was debating whether I should include this DLC or not
Donkey Kong Bananza is a great game, but it’s also expensive, and having a 20€ DLC that should’ve been in the base game feels a bit greedy. But at least they’ve waited until the game was out a couple of months before announcing it!
As the name implies, the DK Island & Emerald Rush DLC adds new content in the form of DK Island and Emerald Rush. In DK Island, you’ll be able to meet familiar characters from the franchise, decorate it with statues, and take on brand-new bonus stages.

Emerald Rush is, surprisingly, a roguelike mode where you go through randomized challenges to get different rewards.
We can easily parallel these with Mario Odyssey, which had Peach’s Castle as its throwback to Mario 64, with moons to collect and new bonus stages to beat.
Then we also had Luigi’s Balloon World, a fun mini-game where you could hide a balloon anywhere in a stage for other players to find.
Both were included in the base game with no additional cost.
I’d say it’s much better to purchase this DLC than all the shovelware being dumped on the eShop, but in my case, I’ll definitely wait for a price drop in the future if that ever happens.
Baki Hanna: Blood Arena
Baki Hanma: Blood Arena is a game clearly inspired by Punch-Out, and I certainly wasn’t expecting it.
You’ll step into the underground arena below Karakuri Hall as Baki, where you’ll face several opponents from the series, from the karate master Doppo to the kung fu expert Retsu to the Demon himself, Yujiro.
And, if you want to beat these fighters, you’ll need to learn their patterns, dodge, and attack just at the right time, which is easier said than done if you’ve ever played a Punch-Out game.

I’m a massive fan of Baki, and I’ve watched all the episodes and read through the entire manga so far. And although I like the concept of the game, I feel it only caters to two types of individuals. Super fans of Baki and fans of Punch-Out who are desperately waiting for a new title.
So, if you fall into one of these categories, feel free to give Baki Hanma: Blood Arena a try..

The Edge of Allegoria
The Edge of Allegoria was the first game that caught my eye this week, mainly because it resembles a Pokémon game for the Game Boy, hitting right at my nostalgia for that era.
However, The Edge of Allegoria is not kid-friendly, so definitely don’t buy this for your kids.
Despite its looks, it features violence, mild nudity, a dark sense of humor, and a lot of swearing. Some say it’s a feature.
If you don’t mind this, you’ll find a game with over 144 unique monsters to face in a big pixelated world with tons of dungeons and secrets to uncover.
Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra
Usually I don’t include free games on these lists, mainly because they are usually filled with P2W microtransactions.
But as of writing this, the only way to spend money on this game is on cosmetics and unlocking new characters, which doesn’t bother me at all.
Dragon Ball Squadra is a super dumbed-down MOBA, even more than Pokémon Unite, meaning anyone can just pick it up and play without much commitment. I don’t see myself playing it much, though, since I’ve had my share of MOBAs with League of Legends and Pokémon Unite.
But if you’re bored and looking for a quick, fun match, then I can definitely recommend Dragon Ball Squadra.
Deal/Purchase of the Week:
Spiritfarer
My deal of the week was also my only purchase of the week, and it’s a great opportunity to get more people playing Spiritfarer. It’s been on my wishlist for ages now, and I’m happy to finally give it a try.
I believe in games as a way of self-care and mental recharge, that’s why I’m always on the lookout for games such as this.
Despite its mature themes around life and death, Spiritfarer is a relaxing game to play and a pleasure to look at.
For the low price of 3.79 €, there was no way I could pass on this.
